4 Ways to Insert the Copyright Symbol in PowerPoint

You can insert or type the copyright symbol (©) in PowerPoint using the Insert Symbol command or by using keyboard shortcuts. In this article, we'll review 4 ways to insert the copyright symbol in PowerPoint. You can insert the copyright symbol in Normal View or Slide Master View.

Note: We are using a US keyboard layout but the strategies and shortcuts apply to English Canada keyboards. Keyboard shortcuts may work differently depending on your keyboard layout / language.

To insert the copyright symbol using Insert Symbol in PowerPoint:

  1. Click in the text box or placeholder where you want to insert the copyright symbol.
  2. Click the Insert tab in the Ribbon.
  3. In the Symbols group, click Symbol. A drop-down menu appears.
  4. Click More Symbols. A dialog box appears.
  5. Scroll though the dialog box until you see the symbol you want.
  6. Click the copyright symbol (©).
  7. Click Insert.
  8. Click Close.

If you have recently inserted the copyright symbol, it will appear at the bottom of the dialog box and you can simply click it and click Insert.

You can insert many other special characters using Insert Symbol including accents and Wingdings characters.

To insert the copyright symbol using a keyboard shortcut in PowerPoint:

  1. Click in the text box or placeholder where you want to insert the copyright symbol.
  2. Press and hold Alt + 0169 on the numeric keypad.

If this doesn't work, you may need to press Numlock on the numeric keypad.

AutoCorrect is a feature in PowerPoint that allows you to insert items from a list in AutoCorrect (in PowerPoint Options). In this case, you would type a series of characters to insert symbols.

To insert the copyright symbol using an AutoCorrect shortcut in PowerPoint:

  1. Click in the text box or placeholder where you want to insert the copyright symbol.
  2. Type (C) and then press the Spacebar.

You must type the brackets and the letter c can be entered in upper or lower case.

AutoCorrect is a proofing tool that also controls the capitalization of the first letter of a sentence as well as other defaults in PowerPoint.

To copy and paste the copyright symbol into PowerPoint:

  1. Select the copyright symbol (©) in this article or in another document or web page.
  2. Press Ctrl + C to copy it.
  3. Open the PowerPoint presentation and click in the text box or placeholder where you want to insert the copyright symbol.
  4. Press Ctrl + V to paste the symbol.

Final thoughts

If you are not typing symbols often, the Insert Symbol method is simple and you won't need to remember any shortcuts.
