3 Ways to Turn Off Design Ideas in PowerPoint

PowerPoint Designer displays a Design Ideas task pane by default in PowerPoint 365 if Intelligent Services has been enabled. However, if you want to turn off the Design Ideas task pane, there are a few ways to disable the Designer feature depending on your needs.

Turning Design Ideas off using the Ribbon

To turn Design Ideas off using the Ribbon:

  1. In Normal View, click the Design tab in the Ribbon.
  2. Click Design Ideas in the Designer group.

Turning Design Ideas off using the task pane

To turn Design Ideas off in Normal View, click Stop showing ideas for new presentations at the top of the Design Ideas task pane. This will turn Designer off for new PowerPoint decks during the current session.

Turning Design Ideas off using PowerPoint Options

To turn Design Ideas off using PowerPoint Options:

  1. Click the File tab in the Ribbon. The Options dialog box appears.
  2. Click General in the categories on the left.
  3. In the right pane, de-select Automatically show me design ideas and Automatically show me suggestions when I create a new presentation.
  4. Click OK.

The PowerPoint Options dialog box appears with options to disable Design Ideas:

If you turn off Designer using the Options method, you'll need to use Options to turn the feature on again when needed.
